This page explains what information this site collects, why, and what happens to it. It covers https://sbruns.com in full — the newsletter signup, the emails themselves, and commenting on them.

Who this is

This site is run by Sam Bruns as a personal newsletter and blog. If you have questions about anything on this page, email sam@sbruns.com.

Newsletter signups

When you enter your email address to subscribe, it's stored along with the date you signed up. You'll get one confirmation email with a link to click — until you click it, you're not subscribed and nothing further is sent. Once confirmed, your address is used for exactly one thing: sending you this newsletter. It is never sold, rented, or shared with anyone else, and it's never used for advertising.

Every newsletter email includes a one-click unsubscribe link. Clicking it stops future emails immediately. Your address stays on file, marked as unsubscribed, so that signing up again later doesn't require reconfirming — and so the site doesn't accidentally email you again. Email sam@sbruns.com if you'd like your address removed from the list entirely instead.

Newsletter emails are sent through Gmail. Google processes the delivery of those messages on this site's behalf but doesn't use your address for anything of its own.

Reading emails on the site

Each newsletter email also gets a page on this site. Those pages aren't intended to be found through search engines and are marked accordingly, but they're not password-protected — anyone with the link can view one.

Signing in with Google to comment

Leaving a comment requires signing in with a Google account. There's no separate password to create for this site — sign-in is handled entirely by Google.

When you sign in, Google shares your name and email address with this site, which is used to create an account here and to show your name next to comments you post. This site does not receive or store your Google password, and does not retain any ongoing access to your Google account after sign-in completes — it can't read your email, see your contacts, or act on your account in any way. Google's own handling of your data is covered by Google's Privacy Policy, and this site's use of information received through Google Sign-In adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy.

A comment's text, your display name, and the time you posted are stored and shown publicly on the email's page. Comments can be hidden or removed by the site owner at any time. Email sam@sbruns.com to have a comment or your account removed.

Cookies

This site uses two cookies, both required for it to function: one that keeps you signed in, and one that protects forms (like the signup and comment forms) from being submitted by other websites. Neither is used for advertising or tracking, and no third-party analytics or ad-tracking cookies are set on this site.

Fonts

Page text is displayed using Google Fonts, loaded directly from Google's servers. Loading a font this way shares your IP address and browser information with Google, the same as it would with any file requested from a website. See Google's Privacy Policy for how Google handles that.

What this site doesn't do

No analytics, no advertising, no third-party trackers, and no selling or sharing of your information with data brokers or marketers. The only outside services involved are Google (for sending mail and for sign-in) and this site's hosting provider, both used solely to run the site itself.

Children's privacy

This site isn't directed at children, and knowingly collects no information from anyone under 13.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in any email. You can stop commenting at any time by simply not signing in again. For anything else — seeing what's stored about you, correcting it, or deleting it — email sam@sbruns.com and it'll be handled directly.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page will be updated. Any change that meaningfully affects how your information is used will also be noted in the newsletter itself.
